How to get to Tempe Town Lake Marina
Tempe Town Lake is right smack in the noisy center of metropolitan Phoenix, a triumph of technology and political will. Highway 202 (The Red Mountain Freeway) borders the lake on the north. Sailboats are allowed to use the section of the lake bounded by the Mill Avenue bridge on the west and the Rural Road bridge on the east (it's called Scottsdale Road in Scottsdale, Rural Road in Tempe).
There's no charge to enter the marina and there's usually sufficient parking. To put a boat in the water requires a city permit, which is available at the lake office, located at the north end of the Mill Avenue bridge (right under Highway 202). Tempe residents pay $5 per year, non-residents $30. They can also fill you in on other regulations.
Directions to Tempe Town Lake Marina: North on Scottsdale Road from Route 202. Turn left (west) at the first opportunity onto East Gilbert. East Gilbert will dead-end into the marina. Or: turn left at the light onto Curry (the Tempe name for Washington St. in Phoenix). Left (south) on College Ave. and follow the signs to the marina. On the Google map we've shamelessly stolen below, the marina is right under the words "Tempe Town Lake."
