Tall Cactus

Tall Cactus 2010 was in its traditional stopping place, Humbug Cove, beginning on Saturday, April 24. It went like this.

Skippers' Meeting at 9 (but it's not required), where you'll receive your start time and race chart; first boats will start just outside the Pleasant Harbor Marina at 11:00am with a fun race around the lake, finishing at our overnight location at Humbug Cove. Since this race is for fun, there's no Notice of Race or Sailing Instructions, just a chart with all our start times listed based PHRF or Portsmouth rating.

There will be two course options, long and short, so you can finish by mid-afternoon. Boats will start in reverse order of their PHRF or Portmouth ratings with slowest boats first, fastest boats last. You'll need to know your rating to enter. Who knows, all boats may finish at the same time. Watch for shoals (ask Steve Kusic about this).

Cruisers not racing can follow any route they like to Humbug Cove.

Dinner will be served on shore Saturday about 5:30pm. Awards will be followed by a campfire, guitars and stories. Sunday will be a day to do as you please. Weigh anchor and enjoy the morning breeze or sleep late in the calm of Humbug Bay.

Don't have a boat? Drive to Humbug and camp out. Rides to Humbug on a power boat are available on Saturday for those willing to unload supplies and be squatters to reserve our spot. There are other volunteer opportunities available, including driving a powerboat to shuttle supplies (or people) and spending a leisurely afternoon recording finishers. If you’re available or have questions, contact Mike Parker.
