Tall Cactus 2008
AYC's annual Tall Cactus social outing is the weekend of April 26-27. It begins with Skippers' Meeting at 10 am Saturday morning and the first boats will head out at 11 am. As we've done the last few years, we'll have a fun regatta (without NOR and SI), leaving the Pleasant Harbor Marina area and starting the boats in order of their PHRF rating with the slowest rated boats leaving first and the fastest last. The race will end up with dinner of chicken and other goodies at Boathouse Cove (part of Two Cow Cove) directly under the observation station on the SW side of the lake. The 2008 edition of the annual Tall Cactus Regatta Fun-in-the-Sun Race and BBQ is set for Saturday, April 26 (and 27th for those spending the night). A moderately long race course up and down Lake Pleasant, around a few islands, and the final run up to Two Cow Cove. Float-ins then anchor out and head to shore as they gather with the land-yachters to encourage the cook with a hand here and there so he can grill his morsels to perfection. There is ample camping areas onshore for those who love the atmosphere, but find themselves without a floating condo. You can drive around to the site from the county side. Just make sure you register using the link above so you don't get left out of the grill fare! Hot campfire, Cool live band, great food, and a refreshing swim area. What's not to love? Racers: Skippers' meeting at 10am at Spinnaker Point for course map, start time assignment, and to synchronize watches. Launch and wait for your start time near the marina entrance buoys. Finish will be marked on the map near the end of Two Cow Cove. Remember – What happens at Tall Cactus, stays at Tall Cactus (unless it is recounted for a Blunder Bucket award) The cost is $25 for each boat that enters, a price that includes one adult dinner.
